House Cleaning Tips for your Houston Home

My Pro Cleaner™
Josh Almanza, Owner SINCE 2004

My Pro Cleaner™ had the privilege of participating in a nationwide article arranged by Julia Weaver for Redfin Real Estate.

We joined Professional Cleaners from all over the country giving their best quick tips for “Deep Cleaning Your Home for a Tidier New Year”.

As a professional carpet cleaner serving the Houston area since 2004, we feel that between professional deep cleanings, it’s important for homeowners to keep their entire homes clean. A cleaner home overall will also keep your carpets cleaner throughout the year.

Our contribution to the article focussed on best practices for regular vacuuming.

For My Pro Cleaner™’s complete article on how to properly vacuum for best results, and how often to vacuum depending on your circumstances, please read our featured article on this website “Vacuuming tips for Better Cleaning”.

Other professional cleaning experts from across the country offered their tips as well — and we’re happy to share their ideas here:

“Say Goodbye to Window Streaks”

Superb Maids from Las Vegas suggests first using Dawn, or another dishwashing soap, with a sponge to remove oily residues from the glass. Then rinse with clean water and cloth in a downward zig-zag pattern, to push down the soap. Then dry the surface with a paper towel, and follow up with Windex or any window cleaning solution for the shine!

“Follow Instructions on Cleaning Labels”

Tucson Maids in Arizona highly suggests following the instructions provided on the labels, and we agree! They say, “A lot of times people will spray the product and wipe it off right away. What they don’t realize is that many products require a ‘dwell time’ of 10-15 minutes, which allows the products to activate and provide a deeper clean.”

“Decontaminate Using Electrostatic Cleaners”

Queen Bee Cleaning Services, from Seattle Washington reminds us that having a clean environment is important for our health and the health of our loved ones, and that superficial cleaning is not enough to kill all the bacteria and viruses that may be on the the surfaces in your home. They recommend disinfecting your home with electrostatic cleaners that coat entire surfaces and decontaminates them.

“Hire a Professional House Cleaner”

Misty Clean in Maryland says, “Consider incorporating a professional top-to-bottom cleaning services. Most services can be used as a first-time clean, or as a thorough Spring/Fall clean. It will keep your home in the most maintained fashion throughout the year.”

“Declutter for a Fresh Start”

Laura Coufal from Clean and Clutter Free Professional Organizing Services in Omaha, Nebraska tells us that the ideal time to declutter is at the start of a new year or before a move. “Imagine being surrounded only by the things that inspire and serve you — and nothing more.”

“Create a routine you can stick to”

Maids and Moore from Austin Texas suggests that having a “rotational item deep-clean schedule. By starting with a deep cleaning of these items, they can be maintained routinely and save money and time”.

“Don’t overlook air ducts and air filters”

Teasdale Fenton from Cincinnati Ohio says, “When thinking of deep cleaning and maintaining the cleanliness of your home, air ducts and air filters are generally overlooked. Getting your air ducts cleaned, and changing the furnace filter regularly will help with maintaining the cleanliness of your carpet.”

“Take care of your carpets and rugs”

Clean Choice from Baltimore Maryland says, “By taking care of your carpets and rugs, you eliminate one of the major indoor air quality problems in your home this winter, which prepares you for the season when you’ll be spending quite a bit of time indoors.”

We agree!

“Keep baseboards clean”

Fresh and Clean, from Atlanta, Georgia reminds us that keeping our baseboards clean and dusted is a good idea. We agree. Dust that accumulates on baseboards will eventually end up on the carpeting. “A simple dusting of our baseboards with a long-handled Swiffer is an easy approach to clean behind furniture. If the visible baseboards are still dirty, a bucket of warm water and 409 spray is an easy fix — just spray and wipe!”

“Always clean up before bedtime”

Jays One-Stop Cleaning Services in Palm Springs California suggests wiping your bathroom and kitchen counters, and making sure that everything is put away in its place by the end of the night. “I want to wake up with a clear mindset, so I can focus on my goals for that day — not stress about cleaning last night’s mess.”
